Troubleshooting Common Issues

Here are solutions to some of the common problems you might encounter while using SongSync.

Why can't SongSync find lyrics for my song?

This can happen for a few reasons:

  1. Incorrect Metadata: The most common issue is that the song's title and artist metadata in the audio file are incorrect or incomplete. SongSync relies on this information to search online. Ensure your files are tagged correctly using a metadata editor.
  2. Provider Lacks Lyrics: The selected lyrics provider may not have the lyrics for that specific song.
    • Solution: Go to Settings and try a different Lyrics Provider. For example, if Spotify fails, try Musixmatch or LRCLib.
  3. Incorrect Search Result: Sometimes the first result a provider returns is for a different version of the song (e.g., a remix or live version).
    • Solution: On the Lyrics Fetch screen, tap the Try Again button. This will ask the provider for the next search result, which may be the correct one.

Why did the batch download stop or fail for many songs?

This is often due to API rate limiting. Online services (the lyrics providers) limit how many requests an app can make in a certain period to prevent abuse. When batch downloading, SongSync makes many requests in a short time.

  • Solution: If you see a rate limit warning, the best course of action is to wait. Try running the batch download again in an hour. Alternatively, switching to a different provider in Settings may allow you to continue immediately, as each service has its own rate limit.

SongSync can't save .lrc files to my SD card.

This issue typically affects devices running Android 10 or older due to changes in how Android handles storage access.

  • Solution: You must manually tell SongSync where your SD card is.
  • Go to Settings.
  • Scroll down to the SD Card section.
  • Tap Set SD Card Path.
  • Use the system file picker to navigate to the root directory of your external SD card and grant access.

Once set, SongSync will have the necessary permissions to save files to that location.
