Quick Start Guide

Once you have installed the application and configured your initial database (see Installation), follow this step-by-step workflow to execute your first download and installation.

1. Launching the Application

Navigate to the Network tab on your PS3 XMB and launch PKGi PS3.

Upon startup, the application reads the config.txt and pkgi.txt files. If you enabled background music, it will begin playing, and the main grid will populate with your available content.

2. Refreshing the Database (If using URLs)

If you opted to use online database URLs in your config.txt, you need to pull the latest lists from your server:

  1. Press the Triangle ($\Delta$) button to open the Options Menu on the right side of the screen.
  2. Use the D-Pad to scroll down to the Refresh... option.
  3. Press X (or O, depending on your console region) to confirm.
  4. A progress dialog will appear as the app downloads the latest database files (e.g., parsing mylist.csv into pkgi.txt).

3. Browsing and Filtering

With a populated list, finding what you want is simple:

  • Basic Navigation: Use the D-Pad or Left Analog Stick to scroll through the list row by row.
  • Fast Scrolling: Use L1 / R1 to jump up or down an entire page at a time.
  • Category Switching: Use L2 / R2 to rapidly cycle through content categories (Games $\rightarrow$ DLCs $\rightarrow$ Themes $\rightarrow$ Avatars).
  • Searching: Press Triangle ($\Delta$) to open the menu, select Search..., and use the PS3's native On-Screen Keyboard to type a keyword.

Understanding Visual Cues

Next to the Region column, you might see specific symbols indicating the status of a package:

  • Solid Circle (●): The item is already installed on your HDD (detected in /dev_hdd0/game/).
  • Empty Circle (○): The item is partially downloaded (a .resume file was detected in the temporary folder).

4. Initiating a Download

  1. Highlight your desired item.
  2. (Optional) Press Square ($\square$) to open the Details view. This will fetch the official icon from TMDB (The Movie Database) using the Title ID, and display the SHA256 checksum and RAP status.
  3. Press X (or O) to begin the download process.

5. Completing the Installation

What happens next depends on your configured Download Mode (adjustable in the Triangle menu under Options):

If using Direct Download (Direct DL)

  • A progress bar will appear on screen.
  • Do not close the application.
  • Once the download finishes, PKGi PS3 will automatically move the package to the PS3's package installation folder. You will receive a success message.

If using Background Download (Back. DL)

  • A brief dialog will say: "Task successfully queued (reboot to start)".
  • Press the physical PS Button on your controller and select Quit Game.
  • Reboot your PS3 (Turn it off and back on).
  • Once rebooted, navigate to Network $\rightarrow$ Download Management on the XMB. Your download will be actively running in the background.
  • When it reaches 100%, navigate to Package Manager $\rightarrow$ Install Package Files $\rightarrow$ PlayStation Network Content to install it.
