Quick Start Guide
This guide will walk you through adding your first command to the Obsidian interface.
Adding a Button to the Left Ribbon
We will add a button to toggle Dark/Light mode to the Left Ribbon (the vertical strip of icons on the far left).
- Open Settings > Commander.
- You will see tabs for different interface locations. Select the Left Ribbon tab.
- Click the Add command button at the bottom.
- A modal will appear listing all available commands. Search for
Toggle dark mode. - Select the command by clicking it or pressing Enter.
- Next, an icon picker will appear. Search for an icon (e.g.,
moonorsun) and select it. - (Optional) A modal will appear asking for a custom name. You can leave it as default or type a short name like "Theme". Press Save.
Result: Look at your Left Ribbon. You should now see your new icon. Clicking it will toggle your theme immediately.
Modifying the Button
Once added, you can customize the button directly from the settings menu:
- Rename: Double-click the name in the list to rename it.
- Change Icon: Click the icon next to the command name to pick a new one.
- Color: Click the color circle to apply a custom tint to the icon.
- Mode: Click the device icon (Computer/Phone/All) to toggle visibility between Desktop-only, Mobile-only, or All devices.
- Reorder: Use the Up/Down arrows to change the position of the button in the ribbon.
