Data Management: Import & Export

Hollama stores all of your data—including server connections, preferences, chat sessions, and knowledge—directly in your web browser's Local Storage. This ensures your data remains private and under your control.

The Data Management section in Settings allows you to easily back up and restore this data.

Exporting Data

You can export your data to JSON files for backup or migration to another browser or device.

  1. Navigate to Settings.
  2. Scroll down to the Data management section.
  3. For each data category (Servers, Preferences, Sessions, Knowledge), click the Export button.
  4. Your browser will download a JSON file (e.g., hollama-sessions.json).

It's a good practice to periodically export your sessions and knowledge, especially if you have important conversation histories.

Importing Data

You can restore your data from previously exported JSON files.

Warning: Importing data will overwrite any existing data in that category.

  1. Navigate to Settings.
  2. In the Data management section, click the Import button for the desired category.
  3. A file selection dialog will open. Choose the corresponding JSON file you previously exported.
  4. Confirm the import. Your data will be loaded into the application.

Deleting Data

If you need to clear your data, you can do so for each category individually.

Warning: This action is irreversible.

  1. Navigate to Settings.
  2. In the Data management section, click the Delete button for the category you wish to clear.
  3. Confirm the action in the browser's confirmation dialog.

The data for that category will be removed, and the application state will be reset to its default for that category.
