About TheDocumentation
TheDocumentation.org is a community-led initiative dedicated to making open source software documentation more accessible, searchable, and user-friendly for everyone. We believe that great documentation is the cornerstone of a successful open source project.
Our Mission
Our core mission is to lower the barrier to learning and contribution within the open source ecosystem. Too often, valuable projects are underutilized because their documentation is scattered, hard to find, or difficult to navigate. By aggregating public documentation from GitHub and presenting it in a standardized, clean format, we aim to solve this problem.
How It Works
We leverage the power of open source tools to achieve our goals:
- GitHub: We source documentation directly from public repositories, ensuring content is fresh and directly linked to the code it describes.
- MkDocs: Projects are built using MkDocs, a fast and simple static site generator that's perfect for project documentation.
- ReadTheDocs Theme: We use the familiar and beloved ReadTheDocs theme to provide a consistent, readable, and navigable user experience across all projects.
Our Commitment to Open Source
This entire platform is open source. We encourage you to get involved, whether by suggesting a new project to add, reporting an issue, or contributing to the platform itself. Documentation is a collective effort, and we are proud to provide a space where that effort can thrive.
